Ōtautahi, Christchurch

The urban metropolis of Christchurch is entwined with incredible architecture, pleasant scenery, peaceful rivers, and trails galore. Head into the hills or meander the city and coastal paths for a delightful day of exploration.

Pick up your bike for a guided or unguided tour through the city streets. Starting in the city, the team at Chill Explore is familiar with taking groups around the city streets on two wheels. They will expertly guide you through the lanes ways parks, and hug the river while delivering 10/10 local knowledge and facts. Pay a visit to the riverside markets for an early morning breakfast delight, or head out on the Puari ki Te Karoro. This new cycleway connects New Brighton to the Central City via the Avon River corridor. Don't forget your togs for a soak in the He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools overlooking the ocean.

Awaroa/Godley Head Loop Track

This walk has excellent coastal views and historic remains peppered along the route for the hikers among us. Check out the local penguin colonies and sea birds as you work your way over the clifftops taking in the stunning coastal views. This loop track is perfect for the whole family, and in just three hours, you will be back in your vehicle and ready for a refreshing lunch or dip in Taylor's Mistake beach.

Kaikōura

The Kaikōura Trail

Head out through the town and towards the ocean, follow the sweet-salty air as you loop around under the base of the Kaikōura range before dropping down to follow the Kowhai river back into south bay. Mountains to the left, ocean to the right, and 48km of the trail ahead. You can access the 48km loop track in both directions. Take your time, pack a picnic and enjoy a wonderfully diverse course that has been a labour of love from a community of bike enthusiasts. Hop on a section or cycle the entire route. Swing into the Kaikoura I-site, where the friendly team can organise a trusty steed for the day.

Mount Fyffe

There is nothing finer than lacing up your hiking boots and heading for the hills. The beauty of this trail is that day, hikers and overnight campers share it. Pick up your Mount Fyffe hut tickets for an evening in the mountains, pack your bag, and hit the trail. On a clear day, the views over the Kaikōura plains and peninsula are nothing spectacular. For a summit return, allow 8 hours of your day, and if you are there for the night, you will need around 4 hours to reach the hut. Don't forget to get up for sunrise, a magical spectacle and an incredible photo opportunity.

Peninsula walkway

Midsummer heat or wrapped up with winter's snowy coat Kaikoura is an all-around hiking and biking destination. The Peninsula walkway is a must-do for all who want to experience Kaikōura on foot. Explore for three hours as you meander over the peninsula to South Bay and return via the coastal track. Observe seals, seabirds, and clifftop views of the ocean and mountain range. Seals are likely to be present. Enjoy them from a safe distance and fill up your camera roll with the cuteness.
